Coach Curt Cignetti’s sixth-ranked Hoosiers opened the 2026 season with a dominant 52-16 victory over North Texas at a sun-soaked Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium.

In fact it was so hot, facility management reported the on-field temperature was 152 at one time during the game.

Playing in front of a crowd of 54,493, Hoosier quarterback Josh Hoover starred in his Hoosier debut, completing 13-of-16 throws for 231 yards and four touchdowns.

Two of those touchdown throws went to wideout Charlie Becker, who finished with four catches for 64 yards and two scores.

On the ground, fellow newcomer Turbo Richard led the way, finishing with 15 carries for 58 and two touchdowns.
The Hoosiers return to action next Saturday when they host Howard at Noon.

While the game is sold out, fans are encouraged to listen to WSLM for a chance to win tickets.
