The Indianapolis Colts today agreed to terms with free agent safety Mike Adams.

Adams, 5-11, 200 pounds, has played in 146 games (73 starts) throughout his 10-year career and holds totals of 488 tackles (368 solo), 55 passes defensed, 13 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries, four forced fumbles and 5.0 sacks.

He also has recorded 14 solo tackles and two passes defensed in four postseason starts. Adams spent the past two seasons (2012-13) with the Denver Broncos and in 2012, he posted career highs in tackles (80) and passes defensed (11), as he helped the team rank second in the NFL in total defense and third in pass defense. In 2013, he played in all 16 regular season games for the third-straight season and registered 60 tackles (45 solo), six passes defensed, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Prior to joining the Broncos, Adams spent five seasons (2007-2011) with the Cleveland Browns and three (2004-06) with the San Francisco 49ers. In 2011, he started all 16 games for the Browns and was part of the NFL’s second-ranked pass defense. He was also awarded the 2011 Dino Lucarelli Good Guy Award from the Cleveland Chapter of the Professional Football Writers’ Association. Adams was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware on April 28, 2004.

IU’s Roberson up for grabs after leaving IU

Quarterback Tre Roberson made IU’s decision on which quarterback to start full-time a bit more clearer this week as he announced he is transferring from Indiana, according to IU.

“We appreciate and thank Tre for his contributions to our football program both on and off the field,” IU coach Kevin Wilson said in a press release. “He is an outstanding player and a great young man. We wish him well as he moves forward with his career.”

Roberson added: “I want to thank the coaching staff, my teammates and Indiana University for all of their support over the last three years. My time in Bloomington will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish everyone at IU all the best as I move on to the next chapter in my life.”

Roberson, named Mr. Football in Indiana in 2010 after leading Lawrence Central High to the Class 5A title game, became the first Indiana true freshman to start at quarterback in 2011. He started five games, played in nine overall, threw for 937 yards and rushed for 426 yards.

Roberson and Nate Sudfeld had been sharing the quarterback role after Roberson suffered a broken leg in the second game of 2012.  Roberson bounced back with four starts and 12 appearances last season. He completed 83-of-138 (60.1 percent) for 1,128 yards with 15 touchdowns, four interceptions and a 158.9 pass efficiency rating. Roberson added 423 rushing yards on 85 attempts (5.0 average) with five TDs.

Expect Roberson to be a hot commodity on college football’s version of the waiver wire, because he is a very good quarterback with mobility and two years of eligibility left. A lot of teams could definitely use that. (Too bad transferring within the conference is so difficult; Roberson could be an answer under center for teams like Wisconsin and Rutgers).

Mark Cuban, an IU alumnus and the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, wore a Roberson jersey while waving the green flag at last month’s Indianapolis 500
