Interviews early on Dec. 10 led to the arrest of these three and the confiscation of a large amount of stolen cash, jewelry and marijuana.

Charges are pending.

On December 9, at 8:40a Campbellsburg Town Marshal David Nicholson was contacted by John Dixon, a salesman at Mid-Way Auto in Campbellsburg about a break in at the business, located at 187 West State Road 60.

Upon arrival, Nicholson noticed a door on the west side of the building had been broken into.

Reported missing were a Liberty safe with an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry.

According to Sheriff Claude Combs, articles found at the scene led police to a residence on Possum Hollow Road.

A person of interest was transported to the jail for questioning, which led to the following two individuals being interviewed early this morning.

At this time the investigation is ongoing and police are awaiting the interview of another person of interest. Brad Naugle and the City of Salem Police Department also helped in this case.

Salem True Value Joins Ace Hardware

The neighborhood hardware store located at 1312 West Mulberry Street in Salem is getting a makeover and will become Ace Hardware of Salem on January 2, 2014.

“It’s an Extreme makeover,” owner Bob Strange said this morning on WSLM’s Coffee Club. “We’re always looking for new ways to serve the community. Ace Hardware can help us do that better.”

Strange said the Salem True Value store was the second largest True Value operation in Indiana, tipping the scales at more than 26,000 square feet.

Mike Zajac and Mark Lehman of Ace Hardware, left and end, right, flank Salem True Value Manager Todd Hazelip, Bob Strange, Gary Strange and Terry Strange.

“We have some opportunities to expand and grow upon our core business,” Strange said.

The Stihl outdoor power equipment, Carhart clothing and boots as well as Radio Shack will remain.

“We have what we call general brands which won’t change at all — the brand name associated with Ace Hardware will change. The values will be the same or better. The common name of Ace will replace the products on the shelf and the signage. We hope to add to the product line with Craftsman tools. This is one complete department that will switch. We will still keep Dawalt and the other national brands. What will be impacted will be the Master Mechanic brands associated with True Value.”

Strange said the property will continue to be family-owned and will own the inventory. The main change is that Ace has a tremendous buying power, nationally, with more than 4,600 stores. Ace also has stores in 66 other countries.

“The size of the business adds to more of the reason to why we wanted to move to someone with more volume,” Strange said. “We want this to strengthen our core departments.”

Salem True Value recently was named BUSINESS OF THE YEAR by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

“At Ace Hardware of Salem, we strive to offer a more personal kind of helpful when assisting Salem residents in finding the right products, supplies and tools to maintain their homes — our customers are our neighbors, not just a number,” said Strange.

The new Ace Hardware will include the Ace-exclusive paint brands like Clark+Kensington, Ace’s paint and primer in one.

“Ace’s brand recognition is unmatched – and being part of Ace means we are now able to offer our customers impactful national promotions and the brands they want, along with the personal, knowledgeable and helpful service that they have come to expect when shopping at their neighborhood Ace Hardware store,” said Strange.

Indiana University officials are planning to pave a large gravel parking lot near the football stadium on the Bloomington campus.

Officials say the estimated $6.8 million project will leave nearly 1,900 parking spaces in the lot north of Memorial Stadium. The plans include numerous trees throughout the parking area and a grassy tailgating area taking up about a quarter of the space.

IU vice president Tom Morrison says the lot will be the “greenest on campus.”

The lot will be available for students and employees, but Morrison says it is only expected to come close to being filled on football game days.

Construction is being planned for next summer.

Thirty-seven were taken during the first two days of the hunt, November 18th and 19th. On Monday, 33 hunters at Spring Mill killed five deer, and 16 hunters took five deer at Cave River Valley. Then on December 3rd, 20 hunters took five deer at Spring Mill, and 17 hunters took three deer at Cave River Valley.

Again, as with the earlier hunt, most of the deer taken from the state properties were does and juveniles. Only two bucks were killed during the hunt.

Property Manager Mark Young says state biologists will take the numbers from the two parks, evaluate the vegetation and then make a decision as to whether or not another hunt will take place in 2014. But Young believes, from the number of deer taken from the properties this year there will be a hunt again next year.

In 2012, 1,292 deer were taken by 4,099 hunters in 14 state parks across Indiana.

At approximately 4 p.m., Indiana State Police detectives radioed that they believed they located Martin. At approximately 4:30 p.m., Martin was confronted in the parking lot of Eastbrook Plaza.
