Darrell Gene Losson, age 67, of Borden
Darrell Gene Losson, age 67, of Borden, Indiana passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Born March 8, 1954, in Salem, he was the son of the late Norman Bud Losson and Wilma (Campbell) Losson.
On November 26, 1998, he married Brenda (Brough) (Harrell) Losson who survives.
Darrell was retired from Kimball International with over 30 years of service; he attended Northside Christian Church in New Albany and was a dedicated volunteer with the Emmaus Walk and Residents Encounter Christ programs.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Wilma Losson, and 1 brother, David Losson.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Losson; 2 stepsons: Jason Harrell and Jared Harrell; 2 daughters: Rachel and Carly; 1 brother: Danny Losson; 2 sisters: Diana Thrasher and Darla Shaffer; and 2 grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Pekin Chapel with Bro. Donnie Whitlow officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Martinsburg Cemetery.
John Andrew Ellis, age 57
John Andrew Ellis, age 57, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Ellis, and brothers, Christopher Ellis and Matthew Ellis.
Survivors include his father, Harry M. Ellis, and step-mother, Pat Ellis; 3 children: R.J. (Savannah), Kara, and Billy; 8 grandchildren; and siblings: Patty Rodriguez (Andy), Michael Ellis (Inok), Steve Ellis, Scott Ellis (Lesia), and Laura Lynch (Viron).
Cremation was chosen to honor John’s wishes; Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
Joyce A. Floyd, 85, of Pekin
Joyce A. Floyd, age 85, of Pekin, Indiana passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at her residence. Born August 22, 1936, in Borden, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Cleon (Fordyce) Tempel.
Joyce was retired from the Borden Cabinet Factory with 42 years of service; she was a member of the Pekin Church of Christ.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Cleon Tempel, and her husband, Wilbur Floyd.
She is survived by 1 brother, Jim Tempel (Barbara); 3 nieces; 2 great-nephews; 1 great-nephew; and 1 great-niece.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Pekin Chapel with Jeremy Goen officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 25, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday, August 26, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Burial to follow in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Recent Arrests by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office
On August 20, 2021, Lieutenant John Hartman served an outstanding arrest warrant at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. Jonathan Chilton, 36, of Seymour, IN, was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
On August 20, 2021, First Sergeant Johnney Coomer assisted the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police by observing for a motorcycle that had fled from them on I-65. Shortly thereafter Sergeant Coomer observed what he believed to be the suspect motorcycle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver of the motorcycle refused to stop and led Sergeant Coomer and other deputies on a pursuit that went back into Clark County where the motorcyclist crashed.
Shortly thereafter the driver, Dylan Everett, 22, of Clarksville, IN, was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation. Once complete Dylan Everett was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement Using a Vehicle, Resisting Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Criminal Recklessness and Operator Never Licensed. Everett was incarcerated at the Scott County Jail.
On August 21, 2021, Deputy Kacey Reschar and First Sergeant Johnney Coomer were dispatched to a residence in rural Scott County for a disturbance. Upon arrival, an investigation led to the arrest of Kristopher Bridgewater, 54, of Scottsburg for Domestic Battery and Intimidation.
Rural Logansport Man Arrested for Child Molestation
Friday, a criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Wendell Beachy resulted in the arrest of Gregory Berkshire, 57, rural Logansport, IN.
Berkshire surrendered to sheriff’s deputies at the Cass County Jail. He was served a Cass Circuit Court arrest warrant alleging two class A felony charges for child molestation.
On July 29, 2021, Beachy started an investigation after receiving information that two girls had possibly been molested in Cass County.
During the investigation, evidence revealed that Berkshire had allegedly, on multiple occasions, molested a then five-year-old girl and a six-year-old girl.
The purported crimes occurred in 2011 in Cass County.
All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
State Road 9 to be closed south of Hope
Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Paul H Rohe Company will be closing State Road 9 for a small structure replacement over Horse Creek beginning on or after Thursday, August 26.
The road will be closed between Schaefer Dr and Hartsville Pike through late September. Motorists should seek an alternate route. The official detour will follow State Road 252, I-65, U.S. 31 and State Road 46.
