Investigation Leads to Arrest of Medora Man on Meth Charges
On October 11, 2016 law enforcement officials with the Jackson County Sheriff’s
Office and Brownstown Police Department executed a Search Warrant at the William
Burrell residence in Medora, IN.
This Search Warrant stemmed from an eight month investigation led by Detective
Ben Rudolph and Deputy Jeff Walters of the Sheriff’s Office involving William
Burrell dealing Methamphetamine.
Burrell was located at his residence and taken into custody after attempting to
flee from law enforcement.
During the search of Burrell and his property law
enforcement officials located approximately 3.5 ounces of crystal Methamphetamine, three firearms, approximately $4300 in US Currency, and other
items associated with the distribution of Methamphetamine.
Burrell (33) was subsequently arrested on three counts of Dealing
Methamphetamine, a Level 4 Felony, one count of Dealing Methamphetamine, a Level
2 Felony, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Level 6 Felony.
Burrell is currently held at the Jackson County Jail pending his initial
hearing, with a bond set at $100,005.
The investigation is still ongoing, and other arrests and/or charges are
anticipated to be filed with the Court.

Suspected Thief Caught During an Alleged Repeat Offense
The suspect of a two week old theft case was arrested after allegedly attempting the same crime from the same location.
On September 28, a male suspect stole a Honda generator from Rural King in Jasper. Surveillance cameras captured the picture of the suspectand the act, and those images were shared and distributed across social media in the following days.
State Police investigators remained hopeful to generate leads and information into the identity of the suspect.
On October 11, a Rural King employee believed he observed a customer, later identified as 38 year old Virgil Ross of Evansville, attempting to steal an identical Honda generator as what was stolen on September 28.
Ross was arrested and charged with Theft, Level 6 Felony
The employee recognized Ross from the surveillance picture and contacted the Jasper Police Department. Jasper officers detained Ross and contacted the State Police so that investigators could continue the investigation.
Officers agreed that the photograph was that of Ross. Ross was placed into custody and transported, without incident, to the Dubois County Security Center.
Throwback Thursday – Historically Speaking
This is a picture of the old mill at Organ Springs, on the western part of Washington County in Howard Township.
Jeremy Elliott, Washington County Historian, said this photo was taken shortly before the mill’s demise in the 1920’s.
“Our history claims the name Organ Springs came from the Beck’s who enjoyed the musical sounds of the water dripping inside the nearby cave,” noted Elliott.
