
Leelan Robert Crain, 8 months, passed away Sunday, September 8 at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Leelan was born Dec. 30, 2012 in Madison, the son of Casey Crain.
He is survived by his mother, Casey Crain, of Salem; his grandmother; Melissa Kirby of Rushville; grandfather Mark Crain of Salem; great-grandmother; Brenda Davidson of Salem; Great Grandfather, James Kirkby of Salem; great-great-grandmothers, Catherine Kirby of Salem and Orpha Abner of Brownstown; and an aunt, Jessica Crain of Salem.
Leelan Crain was found about Saturday night around 7:00 PM, unresponsive by his mother. The boy was taking a nap. Leelan’s mother and her boyfriend took Leelan to the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Salem by personal vehicle.
Once at the hospital in Salem, Leelan was transported to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY by air ambulance. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:41am.
An autopsy was performed this morning (Sunday) on Leelan Crain at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, KY. The autopsy preliminarily determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
The official and final determination of the cause of death to Leelan Crain will not be made until the
autopsy results are complete which typically takes up to six weeks.
This is the only information that can be released at this time. As information
becomes available, the Indiana State Police will release the information.
