Yesterday evening around 7 p.m. Leelan Crain, 8 month old from Salem Indiana, was found unresponsive by his mother while Leelan was taking a nap.
Leelan’s mother and her boyfriend took the boy to the St Vincent Hospital in Salem by personal vehicle.
Once at the hospital in Salem Leelan was transported to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville Kentucky by air ambulance.
He was pronounced dead at 1:45 am.
An autopsy was performed this morning on Leelan Crain at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s office in Louisville Kentucky.
The autopsy preliminarily determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.
The official and final determination of the cause of death to Leelan Crain will not be made until the autopsy results are complete, which typically take up to 6 weeks.
The Indiana State Police and Salem Police Department are investigating this incident.
