Three local offices contested races for spring primary

Friday, Feb. 7 was the deadline to file to run for election in the May Primary and has set the scene for races within the run for party nomination of three major public offices.

There will be a three-way race for the GOP nomination and a two-way race for Democratic nomination for sheriff. Danny Libka, Roy Overshiner are all seeking the Republican nod to seek the office in November. Salem Mayor David Bower and Chief Deputy Sheriff Roger Newlon will vie for the Democratic support for the fall election.

Also, there is a two-way race for County Assessor. Incumbent Jason Cockerill will face Bob Hoar for the GOP support to run in the fall. There is no Democrat candidate for the spring primary.

The Washington County Commissioner, District 2 race has four Republican candidates seeking the party nomination — Mark Boling, Phil McIntyre, Preston Shell are running against incumbent John Fultz.
