Shooting investigation leads to Meth Bust

Tuesday morning, May 27 at approximately 12:30 a.m. the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles received a transfer 911 call of a shooting incident that had just occurred on Bard Road near Crothersville.

According to Detective Roger Drew, investigators responded to the scene where 35 year old Jay McGinnis of Austin had reported the back window of his 2006 Nissan Altima had been shot out.

McGinnis suffered a very minor injury as a result of the shooting. It is unknown if a bullet, bullet fragment, or glass caused the injury.

Investigators have been working around the clock since the incident and early this morning executed two search warrants near Austin in Scott County. As a result of those search warrants, four individuals were arrested on drug related charges.

While the search warrants executed in Scott County were issued as a result of the shooting investigation, the arrested individuals were not involved in the shooting incident itself. For more details regarding the drug arrests, see the related story at wlsmradio.com

The shooter in the incident has been identified by investigators but has not yet been arrested. Investigators are not releasing that individual’s name at this time but say they do not believe he poses a threat to the public. Agencies assisting the state police with the investigation include Crothersville and Austin Police Departments, and Scott and Jennings County Sheriff’s Departments. This is the only information being released at this time. As more information becomes available or if any additional arrests are made, updated information will be released.

Scottsburg Man Arrested For Meth

At around 1:00 pm, a trooper from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg stopped to check on a vehicle parked partially in the road at the intersection of Church Street and Rice Street in Austin.

The driver, Brian Bixler, 41, from Scottsburg, IN, was acting suspicious so the trooper investigated further and located suspected Methamphetamine on Brian Bixler.

He was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and incarcerated at the Scott County Jail.

Search Warrant Leads to Four arrested for Meth in Scott County

Indiana State Police arrested four in Scott County early Wednesday morning after two search warrants were executed.

Arrested were William Robert Waldron, 29, from Cross Street, Austin; Ashley Nicole Vernon, 25, Oard Springs Road, Scottsburg; Gary W. Waldron, 53; Austin and Matthew Murdock, 31, of Austin.

Around 4:00 am this morning, officers from the Indiana State Police executed two search warrants.

One search warrant was executed at a residence on Oard Springs Road in rural Scott County. During that search warrant two people were arrested. Waldron and Vernon were arrested and incarcerated at the Scott County Jail. Both were arrested on the charges of Dealing in Methamphetamine, Possession. of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle, Possession of Paraphernalia and Maintaining a Common Nuisance. 

The second search warrant was executed at a residence on State Road #256 in Scott County and Waldon was arrested on the charges of Possession of Marijuana under 30 Grams, Possession of a Hypodermic Needle and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Murdock was also arrested at the scene for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia. Both of the arrested were incarcerated at the Scott County Jail. 

The search warrants were a result of a shooting investigation that began in Jackson County..

Police investigating how a man was shot and stabbed in Norman

Authorities in Jackson County are trying to find out how a man suffered possible knife and gunshot wounds Monday night.At 11:43 p.m., the Lawrence County Police received a call for about a traffic accident with possible injuries in a field at Hickory Grove and Bob Young roads.

An Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance, the Bedford Fire Department extrication unit and first responders from Pleasant Run Township Volunteer Fire Department responded.

A short time later they notified dispatch that there was an injured man but he was found a short distance from the vehicle and the man had suffered a knife and gunshot wound. The man was taken to Bloomington Hospital for treatment

Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says events leading up to the call occurred in Jackson County, where authorities are investigating.

Jackson County Sheriff Michael Carothers says officers this morning werestill investigating the incident and more information would be available later this afternoon.

“We know there was an accident the driver did go off the road and hit a tree,” he added. “But we are still working the case. The 41-year-old Norman man did not suffer life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.”

US 1st Army General to be keynote speaker at Foundation Dinner June 19

Lt. Gen. Michael Tucker will be the keynote speaker at the Washington County Community Foundation Annual Meeting on June 19, 2014 at Cornerstone Hall.

Lieutenant General Tucker entered the United States Army as a private in 1972 and served as a cavalry scout for 1st Battalion, 35th Armor in Erlangen, Germany until he departed as a Staff Sergeant in 1977. He then served the next two years as a drill sergeant in the 3rd Basic Combat Training Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was accepted in 1979 for Officer Candidate School where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate.

Commissioned in Armor, his first assignment was tank platoon leader, B Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Armor, Germany. During this tour from January 1980 until July 1984 he served as a Tank Company Executive Officer, Battalion Motor Officer, commanded the Battalion’s Combat Support Company and C Company. After a CONUS assignment to attend school, he returned to Germany in January 1986 to command Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 35th Armor, then served as the Battalion Adjutant, Deputy Sub-Community Commander of Ferris Barracks, and finally as the S3, 1st Battalion, 35th Armor in OPERATION DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.

Lieutenant General Tucker attended Command and General Staff College in 1991-92 and was then assigned as an Assistant Professor, United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. He was then selected to serve as a joint staff officer, and was assigned as Chief, Joint Network Simulations at the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama.

Lieutenant General Tucker commanded 1st Battalion, 64th Armor, 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized) from June 1996 to June 1998 and following attendance at the U.S. Army War College, was assigned as the G3, 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized) from June 1999 to February 2001. In March 2001, he assumed command of 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, which included a deployment in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Following brigade command he assumed duties as Executive Officer to the Commanding General U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army

Upon completion of his assignment as Executive Officer, he was reassigned to the 1st Armored Division from August 2004 to June 2006 where he served as the Assistant Division Commander (Maneuver) and then as the Assistant Division Commander (Support). From July 2006 until March 2007, he served as the Deputy Commanding General/Assistant Commandant, United States Army Armor Center and Fort Knox. From April 2007 to October 2008 he served as the Deputy Commanding General, North Atlantic Regional Medical Command and Walter Reed Army Medical Center and then transitioned to be the Assistant Surgeon General for Warrior Care Transition, Office of the Surgeon General.

In May 2008, he deployed to Afghanistan where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations for the International Security Assistance Force until taking command of the 2nd Infantry Division in October 2009 after his return from Afghanistan. In October 2011, he was assigned as the Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Staff at the Pentagon and later assumed duties as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7 prior to taking command of First Army in August 2013.

His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, a Master’s Degree in Military Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University.

Lieutenant General Tucker has earned the Expert Infantry Badge, the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, the Parachutist Badge, the Department of the Army Staff Badge, and the German Ranger Badge.
